The SUNY Business and Education Cooperative of the Southern Tier (SUNY BEST) will host Richard Deitz, who will present “Conditions and Prospects for the Upstate Economy” at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at Tompkins Cortland Community College’s Ithaca Extension Center.
This discussion, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Room 611 at Tioga Place in the Ithaca Commons.

Deitz is a Regional Economics Officer and senior economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He provides economic analysis of upstate New York for the Federal Reserve System, and often consults with state and local governments on regional economic issues. He also resides on the Board of Directors for the New York State Economics Association, where he served as president, and is past president of the Regional New York Center for Financial Training. He is often quoted in newspapers on both the regional and national levels, including the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, and has appeared on CNN, CNBC, and Bloomberg Television.
SUNY BEST is a volunteer group comprised of senior staff members from key economic and educational institutions in the Southern Tier. The group works to forge strong alliances, strengthen industry specific needs and provide information and outreach for business. SUNY BEST also seeks to explore and support the business community workforce needs for traditional and emerging industry clusters such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, energy, photonics, energy conservation and renewal.
