The man taken into custody following an alleged armed robbery at the LeRoy Package liquor store in Binghamton Tuesday night may be connected to over a dozen armed robberies in the area. On Tuesday night, after the worker at the LeRoy Package store handed over $450 in cash, the worker dialed 911 and was able to give police a description of the suspect’s getaway vehicle. A Binghamton patrolman was then able to take 31-year-old Christopher Walsh, who has no permanent address, into custody just blocks away. Walsh is now the prime suspect in at least 15 convenience store robberies in the Binghamton area dating back to November. So far he has been charged in connection with Tuesday’s robbery, along with the robberies at Smokers Choice on Pennsylvania Avenue back on March 21st and a robbery at a Court Street convenience store on March 11th. He is facing felony counts of robbery and was sent to the Broome County Jail without bail. Additional charges are anticipated. At this time, police suspect Walsh’s motive behind the robberies is to fuel an alcohol and drug addiction. Now Binghamton Police are working with other local law enforcement to see if they can link Walsh to other recent robberies.
