Testimony began in the murder trial of Almond Upton on Friday. 62-year-old Almond Upton of Florida is accused of intentionally swerving to kill New York State Trooper Christopher Skinner as he was conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 81 in May of 2014.

Following opening statements, the prosecution called its first two witnesses. Its first witness was State Police Sergeant Todd Phillips. Phillips discussed what police equipment was and was not in use at the time of the traffic stop, including the fact that there was no dashboard camera footage at the time the incident occurred.

The prosecution’s second witness was collision reconstruction investigator Travis Webster.

The defense will now have an opportunity to cross examine these witnesses today as the trial continues.
