Three area colleges have received a top grade from the American Cancer Society. Davis College, SUNY Cortland, and Corning Community College all received the cancer society’s “Grade A” for having some of the most comprehensive policies in place, protecting students and staff from the harmful effects of tobacco. These three colleges are among only 30% of colleges across New York State to receive a Grade A. The American Cancer Society and the American Cancer Society Action Network recommends that Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State legislature pass legislation that would prohibit the use of tobacco on all public college campuses; something which the American Cancer Society says has already been done in several other states.
