The tree that was at the center of a debate between a Town of Maine property owner and NYSEG has a new home.
The spruce tree that was cut down from the Mitchell property last week is now serving as a Christmas tree on the front lawn of the Children’s Home on Chenango Street in Binghamton.
For most of the last month, the Mitchell’s fought to keep the tree from being cut down, including a day when the property owner chained herself to the tree.
The Mitchell’s are happy that the tree is at least being put to a good use.
NYSEG said the tree had to come down because it was a danger to power lines. They have offered to plant shrubbery in its place.
