Authorities and cleanup crews were on the scene of a tractor trailer rollover accident near exit 71 on Route 17 Eastbound for nearly 7 hours yesterday. The accident occurred just before 7am when a tractor trailer driver lost control of his rig, which was carrying construction debris, causing his truck and trailer to roll onto its side. The construction debris spilled across multiple lanes of traffic. The New York Department of Transportation was called in with a front-end loader to clear the scene The driver of the truck, 27-year-old Joel Carrasco of the Bronx, received two tickets: one for failure to stay in a lane, and the other for failure to keep an accurate log book.
Broome County Sheriff’s deputies say that several additional accidents occurred as a result of this initial rollover accident, as commuters lost focus on the road. Authorities spent additional time dealing with these additional accidents.
