The trial of Abdulsalam al-Zahrani, 46, accused of the fatal stabbing of a Binghamton University professor is to begin on Tuesday.
Richard Antoun, a professor of anthropology, was murdered in a Science building on the BU campus back in December 2009.
His accused killer was a graduate student apparently distressed over losing funding for a doctoral project.
The defense has indicated that their defense will be based on the psychiatric state of al-Zahrani.
The defendant’s legal expenses are being paid by the consulate of Saudi Arabia.
Al-Zahrani has been in the Broome County jail without bail.
