A trial began yesterday for suspended Binghamton police officer Kristi Sager, who stands accused of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident in February. Sager recently made accusations of her own against the department. Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski was recently placed on paid leave after Sager filed a human rights complaint against him. She is accusing him of sexual harassment. In court yesterday morning, prosecutors said Sager didn’t provide proper information, or wait for police to arrive, before leaving the scene after she struck and totaled a car parked on Eldredge Street on February 4. Matthew Keefe, the vehicle’s owner, took the stand and testified Sager told him she was scared of losing her job as a police officer, and begged him not to call 911, which he did. Sager, after waiting an undetermined amount of time, left before the police arrived about an hour and a half later. The trial will continue tomorrow morning at 9:30.
