The Broome County Legislature approved combining the finance officers in the transit and aviation departments. The decision will create a new position, deputy commissioner of finance for aviation and transit, while eliminating the individual finance commissioners in each department. The move will not cost anyone their job, as the aviation’s finance position is vacant and the transit officer is retiring. Legislature Chairman Jerry Marinich said the move will save at least $37,000 each year. The county will now look for someone to fill the new role. No prospective candidates have been announced yet.
