Broome County has its first confirmed case of the Zika virus. County public health officials made that announcement this morning. The virus is a public health threat because it has been linked with serious birth defects in babies of mothers who were infected with the virus. It is primarily transmitted through mosquito bites. More information will be released in a press conference this afternoon.
