The Broome County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a man who allegedly stole an Uber vehicle and fled law enforcement.

According to police, 35-year-old Jeffrey C. Lane, of the Rochester area, has been charged with robbery in the second degree, grand larceny in the third degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree and criminal possession of stolen property, which are all felonies, as well as other misdemeanors and traffic violations.

Police said that on March 10 at around 4:40 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a vehicle theft on Glenwood Road in the Town of Dickinson. Lane was in a parking lot waiting for EMS arrival when he became impatient and called a taxi.

Around that time, an Uber driver arrived to drop off another passenger and Lane allegedly punched the driver in the face and dragged him out of his red Honda Civic and fled the scene.

Lane then led police on a high-speed chase before striking a curb and driving onto a sidewalk. He exited the vehicle and was detained after a brief struggle.

Lane is facing additional charges in the Town of Dickinson and Binghamton. He was arraigned and remanded to jail.
