Broome creates Student Board of Advisors

As young people continue to leave the Southern Tier, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar and other local leaders are looking for ways to reverse the “brain drain.” Garnar announced the creation of a Student Board of Advisors yesterday, which will consist of 25 students – one representative from each school district in the county as well as students from SUNY Broome and Binghamton University. The students will be tasked with looking at ways to improve the county, and make recommendations to Garnar and the legislature. County leaders hope the SBA can become a vehicle for students to become more connected with the community and stay here long term. They hope to have nominations for board members by June and hold their first meeting in the fall.
