Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced a proposal yesterday to turn the former Broome Developmental Center into a drug treatment facility. Not only would it allow the county to take another step in its fight against the heroin and opioid epidemic, but it would also make use of the center than has been closed since last April. The proposed facility would provide in-patient and out-patient treatment as well as mental health and detox services. A public forum to discuss the proposal will be held today at 5:30pm in the Broome County Library.
