Broome County Sheriff’s deputies will soon begin wearing body cameras. Deputies will be required to record most interactions with the public, with few exceptions, such as when they are dealing with a rape victim. The sheriff’s office purchased a total of 35 cameras which can be fastened to multiple locations on a deputy’s uniform. The Sheriff’s office also purchased a 5 year maintenance and technology plan. The total cost of the investment totals $50,000. The Broome County Sheriff’s office is the first law enforcement agency in the area to begin wearing body cameras, however, the Binghamton Police department is also looking at the possibility.
