Hundreds of freshman, transfer, and international students will move into their dorms Sunday and Monday at Binghamton University, marking the beginning of the fall semester and the 2016-2017 academic year. Approximately 2,600 freshmen, 1,000 transfer students and 1,100 new graduate students will join current students to start classes on Thursday. In all, about 17,200 students are enrolled for the fall semester. Transfer students include 180 from SUNY Broome Community College. BU received another record-high 32,000 freshman applications for fall admission, surpassing the previous record set last year. The breakdown by geography is 32 percent from upstate New York; 7 percent from Broome and Tioga counties; 26 percent from Long Island; and 22 percent from New York City. The school also anticipates 700 new international students to join the campus community, 300 as undergraduates and 400 as graduate students from 45 countries.
