Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that Broome County will be receiving close to $400,000 in state funding looking to reduce shootings and gun-related homicides. Thursday’s announcement by the governor said that Broome is one of 17 counties in the state to share from a pool of $13.2 million through the Gun Involved Violence Elimination Initiative. Broome County submitted an application with a plan on how the county would attack firearm-related violent crime and shootings. The amount given to each county was based on the strength of the application and their strategies, along with how much crime was in the area.
