Governor Andrew Cuomo made a stop in the Southern Tier Tuesday morning. Cuomo attended the region’s New York Rising committee meeting, which was held at Binghamton University’s Engineering and Science Building. The New York Rising Community Reconstruction Program was created earlier this year by Cuomo and is funded by federal recovery money. The program is intended to create strategies for communities that have suffered significant damage in recent storms in order to help rebuild and prepare for weather issues in the future. Planning committees are located in 102 communities across New York State. The New York Rising Community for Tioga County is eligible for up to $12 million in funding, with $3 million eligible for the village and town of both Owego and Nichols. Broome County is eligible for up to $15.6 million, with $3 million eligible for the city of Binghamton, the towns of Conklin and Vestal, and the village of Johnson City. The Town of Union is eligible for $3.6 million in funding through the program.
