Endicott man facing charges for allegedly selling untaxed cigarettes

An Endicott man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into illegal cigarette sales in the Village of Endicott.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant at Crown Fried Chicken in Endicott and seized over 3,000 packs of untaxed cigarettes, over $1,900 in cash and seven bottles of Viagra.

After the search, 69-year-old Jamshaid Ahmad was arrested and charged with felony counts of criminal tax fraud in the third degree and possession/transport for sale of unstamped/unlawfully stamped cigarettes as well as other related misdemeanor charges.

The New York State tax rate is currently $5.35 per pack and the seized cigarettes represent over $17,000 in evaded New York State taxes.

The Broome County Special Investigations Task Force is comprised of members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, City of Binghamton police and Johnson City Police.
