Endicott Man Goes to Trial in Crash that Injured Deputy

A trial date of Aug. 12 has been set for an Endicott man who is accused of hitting a Broome County sheriff deputy’s patrol car at 60 mph and injuring a deputy early Feb. 1 while going the wrong way on Route 17 in Vestal.


Daniel Butash, 34, of Endicott, faces a prison term of up to 25 years if found guilty in Broome County Court. Butash had a blood alcohol content of about 0.25 percent — three times New York state’s limit of 0.08 percent. Butash was offered a plea deal in May by the Broome County district attorney, but he rejected the deal. An indictment charges him with six separate felonies, including first-degree assault. He was plead not guilty.

Deputy Kristy Botsford was trapped in the patrol vehicle. Botsford suffered multiple serious injuries. In May, Sen. Fred Akshar reognized Botsford as the NYS Senate 2019 Woman of Distinction in 52nd Senate District of Broome, Chenango and Tioga counties.


County Judge Kevin Dooley will preside.
