As summer approaches, the Village of Endicott plans to facilitate water maintenance in designated areas by flushing fire hydrants. While flushing hydrants may look like a waste of water, it is an important process in order to ensure that minerals are removed so the water supply is clean and safe as well as the pipe network operating smoothly.
The village water department will flush hydrants during warm-weather months Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. until midnight, except on holidays. The order and methods of hydrant flushing have been improved to increase effectiveness but customers may have intermittent discolored water during this time. Residents who experience discolored water should run cold water until it clears.
The areas that were first affected by hydrant flushing from May 23 through May 31 included: Carl Street, W. Main Street, E. Main Street, Badger Avenue, Nanticoke Avenue, Union Street, Wallace Street, Lillian Avenue, Church Street, Moss Avenue, Hazel Avenue, Grant Street, Catherine Avenue, Leona Avenue, Martin Street, West Avenue, Irma Avenue, May Street, Crestview Drive, Day Hollow Road, Carrie Avenue, Betty Street, Boswell Hill Road, Flora Street, Rodman Road, Route 26, Domenica Drive, Antonio Court, Bean Hill Road, Exchange Avenue, Prospect Street, Edwards Street, Newark Valley Road, Keeler Street, Badger Avenue and Davis Avenue. Residents will be notified via signage regarding when the hydrant flushing will take place in their area. The Endicott Water Department will also list the specific streets affected on its website at endicottny.com/water.
