As independent cinemas across the country struggle to meet the demands of going digital, one discount theater in Endicott will get help, from winning a contest.
In March, film companies will stop making film, and in an effort to help save independent cinemas, a group called “Save America’s Small Town Cinemas” held a contest promising $50,000 to help a few theaters make the “digital transition.”
Nearly 60 movie theaters entered the contest, and Endicott’s Cinema Saver, got the very first draw.
The money will be used to update one of their five theaters. The theater will take out a loan to update the rest. Fundraisers will also be organized to help pay the way. The Endicott Cinema Saver plans to go completely digital in March.
