UFC light heavyweight champion and Endicott native Jon Jones posted bail and was released from jail following an alleged hit and run accident. He posted $2,500 bail and was released from jail at late last night. Albuquerque Police said Jones turned himself in earlier that evening without incident. Police had issued an arrest warrant for Jones on charges of “leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injuries.”

Witnesses at the scene said a man they believed to be Jones got out of his silver Buick SUV following the crash, jogged to the top of a nearby hill, then returned to the SUV, grabbed cash from the vehicle and fled into a nearby neighborhood. The SUV was a rental car and had paperwork inside that belonged to Jon Jones. Police also found a pipe with marijuana inside of it inside the car. The U-E grad is scheduled to fight in Las Vegas next month. No word yet on if that fight will go on as scheduled.
