The Maine-Endwell School District is moving forward with mid-year staff reductions. Thursday, the School Board approved a measure that cuts nine positions. Five cleaning positions were eliminated, as well as two lunchroom positions, a computer services coordinator and a maintenance position. The layoffs are effective immediately and were imposed to help the district deal with a $3.8 million budget deficit. The board still has a lot of work to do to get out of the red and as next year’s budget process moves forward, more cuts to staff and programs are likely. M-E’s school board has two proposals on the table for the 2013-2014 school year, each of which would save more than $4.1 million.
