Woman’s Life Saved By Heroin Overdose Drug

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office reports that they have already successfully used a newly dispatched life-saving drug Thursday, that saved the life of a 27-year-old female who had reportedly overdosed on heroin. The sheriff’s office received a 911 call from a woman in Endwell who said her daughter was unresponsive and not breathing. Police arrived on scene within two minutes of the call. He deployed the drug as trained. The unresponsive female began breathing and regained consciousness within several minutes. She was taken to Wilson hospital. The drug, commonly referred to as Narcan, is specifically used to counteract life-threatening depression of the central nervous and respiratory systems. The sheriff’s office began carrying it in February, after receiving training from the Broome County Office of Emergency Services.
