Both sides in the controversial fracking debate are reacting to the news that a DEC decision on gas drilling rules will be delayed beyond the February 27th deadline. The DEC is waiting on a State Health Department review of fracking, and this week said more time is needed to complete the study.
Now the Landowners Coalition of New York is considering a lawsuit on the delayed decision.
Anti-fracking factions, however, were pleased with the delay. But DEC Commissioner Joseph Martens has now indicated that fracking permits may be issued before the final regulations are in place, heating up the controversy even further. New York has had a 4-year-long moratorium on hydro-fracking while environmental guidelines have been in development.
