Governor Cuomo has declared a State Disaster Emergency in most of central and western New York, as a result of the heavy rains that have pummeled the area. The counties covered include Tioga, Broome, Chemung, Cortland, Delaware, Schuyler, nine additional counties, and those counties that are contiguous to the named counties. Anticipating localized flooding, power outages, road closures, property damage, and the threat to public health and safety, Cuomo recognizes that local governments will not be able to cope with the situation. He has directed the Implementation of the State Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, effective today. The proclamation will be in effect until August 21st. Roger Parino will be the coordinating officer for this event.
