Broome and Tioga counties will be celebrating the Great American Smoke Out at the Broome County Health Department at 10:30am on November 15th. The event will feature a mom and daughter whose story focuses on the mom’s successful cessation from smoking due to her daughter’s participation in the Reality Check program. Reality Check is part of Tobacco Free Broome and Tioga. Staff from the American Cancer Society will also share information about the Great American Smoke Out. Although smoking rates have dropped dramatically in recent years, recent survey data found that in New York 14.2 % of adults and 5.5% of high school students report being current smokers.
