The Binghamton Police Department has arrested a man for arson and murder in connection with the fire that killed Binghamton firefighter John “JR” Gaudet last month.
According to police, 36-year-old Patrick K. Shea, who has no permanent address, was taken into custody at a residence in Kirkwood on Thursday. He was indicted by a Broome County Grand Jury for arson in the fourth degree and murder in the second degree.
Gaudet, who was an 11-year veteran of the Binghamton Fire Department, was killed when a wall collapsed during the fire at 1 Main Street in downtown Binghamton on Wednesday, Feb. 12th.
An investigation revealed the fire started inside the vacant building and police said the source of the fire had human involvement.
Shea was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
