A homicide suspect was found inside a Port Crane home after a chase on Wednesday.
According to Broome County Sheriff David Harder, Binghamton Police were involved in a high speed chase when deputies also joined the pursuit. The suspect, Nigel Smith, left the vehicle and ran into an unlocked house. Sheriff Harder says he spotted Smith lying between two beds upstairs inside a Pine Street house. After a brief struggle, Smith was taken into custody. Binghamton Police say Smith is wanted in connection with the homicide that took place on Stone Street in June. According to investigators, he’s suspected in the death of 44-year-old Bretnie “Sha” Owens. Police did not release many details about what happened, but said the autopsy report confirmed that Owens was a homicide victim.
