Paul A. Frost Jr. faces 31 infractions and a criminal mischief felony charge after a 100mph pursuit in Broome County. Around 12:55 a.m. Thursday, Broome County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kevin Mauser was on patrol on Glenwood Road in the Town of Dickinson when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Mauser attempted a traffic stop, but the operator continued at a high rate of speed. The pursuit went onto Airport Road, where the vehicle operator, later identified as Paul A. Frost Jr., 25, of Johnson City, drove over 100 mph. The pursuit continued into the City of Binghamton, Route 7 and onto Route 88.
As the vehicle got onto Route 88 east, it caught fire and flames were observed underneath it. Deputies and NYS Troopers attempted to slow down the vehicle when Frost swerved into the side of Mauser’s patrol car. Frost lost control and struck the concrete center barrier near Exit 2, stopping his vehicle. Frost, and the other two vehicle occupants were taken into custody. Another deputy used a fire extinguished to put out the fire. On one was injured in the accident.
An investigation revealed the other vehicle occupants were not willing participants and were released from custody. Frost did not have a drivers license.
The Sheriff’s Office patrol car sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene; Frost’s vehicle was heavily damaged and towed.
