A new training program coming to Broome County is aimed at helping the unemployed land jobs. Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, the Broome-Tioga Workforce and other local officials announced the SkillUp! initiative on Wednesday. The program, called SkillUp!, tailors the existing online trainings provided through Broome-Tioga Workforce NY and categorizes them into locally recognized credentials in high-demand fields. Together, with partner agencies, these trainings will help equip local workers with skills they need to thrive in the local job market. At least 400 residents will be offered the training through Metrix Learning. Garnar says there are 5,800 unemployed people in Broome County, and 2,800 job openings. Those who are interested in registering for SkillUp! can visit the Broome-Tioga Workforce during business hours; Monday through Friday from 8-4.
