Officials have confirmed that a Johnson City Police officer was shot and killed this morning on Harrison Street, and the suspect in the case has died as well. According to reports, shots were fired on Harrison Street, which is right behind Wilson Hospital, just after seven o’clock this morning. Medical buildings at 30 and 22 Harrison Street were evacuated. By 7:30, dispatchers were calling for any agency to respond with a bomb-detecting dog, and the Endicott bomb squad was put on standby. State Police, Broome County Sheriff’s deputies, and Binghamton City Police are all on the scene. UHS officials have said that patients and staff are safe, along with the surrounding area. Certain offices will be closed for the day by police order. At this time, it is expected that Harrison and Hudson Streets will be closed for the rest of the day, and UHS advises patients and visitors coming to the hospital to avoid those streets.
