New Cell Tower Being Planned in Johnson City

A company is testing an area in Johnson City for the possibility of building a cell tower. Capital Telecom submitted an application to the Village of Johnson City to run some tests to determine whether or not to build communication tower that would be 120 feet tall and be built along Reynolds Road, behind the Warehouse Carpet Outlets store. The goal of the tower would be to provide better wireless coverage through AT&T in and around the Oakdale Mall.
In December, the village board turned down a land lease agreement with AT&T, but this situation is different because the tower would be built on private land. The Johnson City Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing to discuss the tower on Monday night at 7:30.
