A legal battle over the opening of a liquor store next to the Wegmans grocery store in Johnson City continued with arguments before a State Supreme Court judge Wednesday. The owner of Oakdale Wine & Liquor in Johnson City filed a legal petition at the end of December asking for the courts to prevent Rochester-based Johnson City Wine Partners LLC from using their liquor license they were granted last month. The argument focuses on a state law preventing a person from holding multiple liquor licenses, and the close ties between Johnson City Wine Partners and Wegmans. Jason Wehle, who is 80 percent owner of Johnson City Wine Partners, is also the son-in-law of Danny Wegman, CEO of the grocery chain. The new store next to Wegmans is scheduled to open on the 25th of this month.
