Students attending the Southern Tier Scholastic Science Fair saw a lot more than the traditional projects Saturday. They witnessed science and engineering in action when a Lockheed Martin Kaman K-Max Helicopter landed at SUNY Broome. The helicopter is used for military purposes in Afghanistan. It weighs five thousand pounds but carries more than that in supplies. It can even fly unmanned. The event was designed to encourage middle and high school students to pursue careers in science, technology and engineering. Students also participated in hands-on workshops led by SUNY Broome faculty. Students with winning projects were awarded more than 25-hundred dollars in prize money.
