A man slit his wrists and neck in the Johnson City Walmart yesterday afternoon. Just before 2:30pm, authorities responded to a report of a man with a knife threatening to slit his throat. Upon their arrival, the man proceeded to go through with his threat. Police officers first pepper sprayed the man to try and subdue him, but ultimately ended up needing to use a taser to stop the man from causing further harm to himself. The man was taken into custody under a mental health law, and transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The store was evacuated after an employee pulled the fire alarm.
The man is expected to survive.
