Massive Brush Fire in Hillcrest Area

Firefighters battled hot spots yesterday following a massive brush fire Saturday that spanned 55 acres in the Hillcrest area. The fire was sparked by a passing train. The Hillcrest Fire Department said it was the wind, tough terrain, and dry conditions that allowed this blaze to spread so quickly, and made it a difficult fire to fight. 31 fire departments worked together for 10 hours to fight the brush fire on Saturday. Crews were back at the scene at 9:30 yesterday morning to put out any hot spots they found and to make sure no new fires ignited. Firefighters worked all day Sunday as well. The Hillcrest Fire Chief says they have the fire contained. A small crew will go out today to check on the scene one last time.
