Mercy House of the Southern Tier has announced a plan for a $2 million dollar expansion to provide compassionate end-of-life care to more patients.
Since it opened in 2016, Mercy House of the Southern Tier has welcomed more than 1,200 residents with the goal of creating a home for people with terminal illnesses.
According to WBNG-TV, Mercy House will add six new rooms equipped with private restrooms and flexible spaces to meet the needs of individuals in their final stages of life.
The expansion is needed as Mercy House has been at total capacity, which has meant turning away several applicants.
Mercy House has received more than $1 million dollars in grant funding, but the organization is looking to raise funds to help with the expansion. Donations can be made at mercyhousesoutherntier.com/donate.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Monday, Sept. 30th at 10 a.m. at Mercy House, located at 212 McKinley Ave. in Endicott.
