NYSEG has begun inspecting wooden transmission poles throughout the company’s Binghamton division. NYSEG announced Wednesday that the poles are being checked for decay and other damage. Inspections and repairs to 19,000 poles throughout the NYSEG service area have been planned this year in an effort to prevent issues which could possibly lead to power interruptions. In addition to identifying poles in need of repair or possible replacement, NYSEG will also treat some poles to increase their longevity. Poles infested with carpenter ants may be treated with a state-approved insecticide. Thousands of other transmission and distribution poles will be inspected across the state from now through August.
