The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Pennsylvania man who was wanted for felony charges out of Wyoming County.
According to the sheriff’s office, 32-year-old Zachary Swire of Tunkhannock was wanted for felony theft of a motor vehicle and other related charges.
The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force was alerted on Nov. 25 that a white SUV had been identified as a stolen vehicle by several license plate readers in the Binghamton area.
Officers located the vehicle in downtown Binghamton and initiated a traffic stop. As they approached the car, the suspect drove away in an attempt to flee.
During the chase, Swire drove through stopped traffic and hit several cars and curbs. His vehicle started to emit smoke and eventually lost its front driver’s side wheel.
Despite the damage to the car, the suspect continued to flee and crossed into Pennsylvania before going off the road into the woods. After a short foot chase, Swire was taken into custody.
He is facing felony charges of reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and criminal possession of stolen property for his alleged crimes in Broome County.
