Police raided a couple’s home on Cafferty Hill Road back on Feb. 11. Wielding a warrant signed by two judges in two counties, officers searched the home of Steven and Cindy Dunlap for guns and drugs—only to find nothing inside.
Steven Dunlap was pulled over while driving his vehicle, handcuffed and taken in for questioning before investigators determined he had not committed a crime, according to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Department.
Tioga County Sheriff Gary Howard said the Broome County Drug task force approached his department to execute a warrant at the Dunlap’s home. “What went wrong is that their information wasn’t what it was supposed to be,” according to Howard. He also said nothing like this has happened before. However, he would not divulge what evidence Broome County investigators used to determine there should be a raid. Howard also said “Investigators had done their background and their research. They had done their due diligence.”
