Monday was a day of remembrance, as law enforcement took time to honor those who have died in the line of duty.  The Southern Tier Law Enforcement Memorial Association continued its celebration of Police Week 2016 with a motorcade from Binghamton University to the Binghamton Police Department.  After the celebration, a ceremony was held.  Forty-one names of law enforcement officers who died while on duty were recognized — dating back to 1845.  A rose was set down for each officer.  Senator Fred Akshar, who is the former undersheriff of Broome County participated in the ceremony. He reiterated the sacrifice and commitment each officer makes on a daily basis. Akshar says a simple thank you from a member of the community goes a long way.  The annual Police Week Breakfast will be held today at the Holiday Inn. Members of law enforcement from around the Southern Tier will attend.
