State Senator Fred Akshar is conducting a survey related to new legislation that would require anyone applying for or renewing a pistol permit to consent to having their social media accounts and search engine history reviewed by police as part of the mandatory background check. The investigation would look for profane slurs or biased language used to describe the race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, religion, religious practice, age, disability or sexual orientation of a person. It would also look for any threat to the health or safety of another person, or any threat or act of terrorism. Akshar is asking his constituents in Broome, Tioga, Chenango and Delaware counties to weigh in on the legislation. The survey is on Senator Akshar’s website – Akshar.NYSenate.Gov.
