From Tioga County Emergency Management:
The Tioga County Office of Emergency Services, along with the National Weather Service, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, NYS Office of Emergency Management, and the NYS Governor’s Office is currently monitoring an ice jam that has formed in the Susquehanna River from the area of Hiawatha Island and extending east into Broome County.
Minor flooding occurred last Sunday, January 14th which required assistance from the Campville Fire Department to evacuate one person from their residence on Kinney Rd. in the Town of Owego.
Since that time there has been no additional flooding along the river. At the present time there is some uncertainty when the ice will break up and the effect it will have on properties along the river when it does so.
People living along the river need to be prepared in the event that flooding occurs and they need to leave their residence.
If flooding is imminent, notice will be given by means of local television and radio stations as well as NY Alert.
