The Wilmot Casino & Resort, a direct competitor with Tioga Downs and Traditions Resort for a casino license, has officially received a resolution of approval from the town in which it plans to build if awarded the license. The Tyre Town Board unanimously approved the resolution Thursday night, despite the small town having a group of residents create a coalition to fight the building of the $350 million project. The board found no environmental impact of the project that kept them from approval. The town of Tyre is about 90 miles northwest of Binghamton in Seneca County. Tioga Downs announced last week that it has the resolutions or letters of support from 29 towns and villages, as well as the legislatures of Tioga, Chemung, and Schuyler counties. Traditions is yet to receive a resolution from the Town of Union. Bidders for new casino projects must submit their application to the state by June 30th, with selections expected to be made this fall.
