Train Derailment In Deposit

A freight train has derailed in Deposit.  New York Susquehanna and Western Railroad notified Delaware and Broome County 911 Centers of a train derailment at 2:14 this morning.  High river water caused the tracks to wash out overnight fouling 2 out of 4 locomotives pulling the 63 car train.  The two locomotives are in the west branch of the Delaware River and they are leaking diesel, though environmental officials said at a press conference this morning that they don’t expect . The engineer and conductor were uninjured.  A crane is expected to arrive around 11 AM to pull the locomotives from the river.  The town of Deposit has declared a state of emergency because of the recent Flash Flooding.  The Deposit School District has cancelled summer programs for the day today as a result of the emergency declaration.
