Governor Andrew Cuomo will lead the state of New York for the next 4 years. He is now the first New York Democrat to be re-elected as governor since his father won a third term in 1990. Cuomo and running mate Kathy Ho-kul had 54 percent of the vote compared to Rob Astorino’s 40%, and Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins with 5%.

State Senator Tom Libous easily won re-election in the 52nd district defeating Anndrea Starzak. Libous, who had 62% of the vote, said last night “It’s a very sweet victory and I want to thank everyone who stuck with me. We are going to work very hard over the next two years – we have a lot of work to do – we have to
create jobs and careers, the BU Pharmacy School is something I care deeply about and I want to see that through.” That from Tom Libous after his victory last night.
Other winners in the Empire State:
–Eric Schneidermann was re-elected as Attorney General with 55% of the vote.
–Comptroller went to Thomas DiNapoli getting 60% of the vote.

US House winners were…
–Tom Reed in District 23 over Martha Robertson with 63% of the vote.
–Chris Gibson in District 19…Elise Stefanik in District 21 (who will become the youngest woman ever elected to Congress)…and John Katko in District 24.

In Broome County…
— David Harder won as Broome County Sherriff with 59% of the vote.
–Anthony Fiala who was in the news recently for drunk driving lost to Karl Bernhardsen in District 13.
–The Broome County legislature will be controlled by Republicans by a 12-3 margin. The winners were Ron Heebner, Michael Sobchak Jr., Jason Garnar, Mark Whalen, Kim Myers, Daniel Reynolds, Greg Baldwin, Matthew Pasquale, and Jason Shaw.

In Pennsylvania…Democratic candidate Tom Wolf defeated incumbent governor Tom Corbett.

Proposal 1 about redistricting passed with 57% of the vote, proposal 2 the legislative bill passed with 77% of the vote, and proposal 3 for school bonds passed with 61%
