Two men facing manslaughter charges in fatal car accident

Two men are facing manslaughter charges following a fatal motor vehicle accident in the Town of Binghamton.

On Sunday, September 15, at approximately 3:06 a.m., Broome County Sheriff Road Patrol deputies responded to a serious injury motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles on Morgan Road at the intersection of Cobblestone Court in the Town of Binghamton.

One of the vehicle occupants sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been released due to pending notification of next of kin.

Based on the initial investigation and the circumstances involving the accident, the operators of both vehicles were each charged with Manslaughter in the 2nd Degree, Class C Felonies:

  • Cody W. Diffendorf, age 20 of Kirkwood
  • James M. Macdowall, age 26 of Binghamton

The accident is still under investigation by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division and the Accident Reconstruction Unit.

Sheriff Fred Akshar will provide additional information to the public as the investigation concludes.
