The Town of Union Board has passed an expansion of their tobacco free parks law. This was approved at a special board meeting on July 18. This law is effective immediately and will prohibit use of all tobacco products, including electronic nicotine delivery devices, in all areas of the town parks. People wishing to use tobacco products will need to go outside the park — 50 feet away from any park entrance and 25 feet away from any park boundary. The previous law prohibited smoking only near playgrounds, pools, carousels, athletic fields and spectator areas.

Highland Park in Endwell is host to one of the Southern Tier’s largest July 4th fireworks displays, drawing thousands to the Park on Hooper Road. No smoking anywhere in the park during the next July.

Free no smoking signage will be provided by Tobacco Free Broome and Tioga. For more information on implementing tobacco free policies or on quitting smoking, contact the Broome County Health Department at 607.778.2885.
