On Tuesday voters in the Town of Vestal approved spending nearly $700,000 to buy a new rescue truck for the town’s fire department. The vote was passed by an 805 to 240 margin, which will allow Vestal to borrow the money to replace the current 27-year-old rescue truck, after a similar motion was denied by voters earlier this year. In April, voters rejected a request to borrow $800,000 by just seven votes. The Vestal Fire Department serves approximately 28,000 residents, along with retailers and Binghamton University’s main campus.
